LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 2011--
AECOM Technology Corporation (NYSE: ACM), a leading provider of
professional technical and management support services for government
and commercial clients around the world, announced today that the U.S.
Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded the company a
contract to implement the Afghanistan Stability in Key Areas (SIKA)-East
program worth up to US$177 million.
SIKA-East is a stabilization-focused community development program that
supports USAID’s objective of increasing the people of Afghanistan’s
confidence in their district-level governments, leading to the expansion
of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s (GIRoA)
provincial authority and legitimacy.
Under the contract, AECOM will assist provincial and district entities
in developing tools and participatory processes to understand and
respond to sources of instability in their communities. The team will
work closely with USAID to help build the capacity of district officials
to leverage existing government, donor and military resources to aid in
the design, implementation and monitoring of local programs and
small-scale infrastructure projects that address both citizen concerns
and root causes of instability.
The contract has an 18-month period of performance with an additional
18-month option period. The project will focus on key districts
prioritized by the U.S. and Afghanistan governments.
This win builds on AECOM’s Afghanistan Social Outreach Program, which
set up more than 130 district councils across the country.
